Access to business credit is one of the most critical bottlenecks for Indian SMEs and growing businesses. Despite a wide range of government-backed and institutional lending schemes, the majority of eligible businesses fail to access formal credit — not because of a lack of eligibility, but because of inadequate financial documentation, incomplete CMA data, incorrect loan product selection, or failure to present the business case convincingly to the credit committee.

Banks and NBFCs have structured credit appraisal processes that evaluate the borrower's financial health, repayment capacity, business track record, management quality, and security coverage. A well-prepared loan application — with clean financial statements, a compelling project report, accurate CMA data, and the right loan product match — dramatically improves sanction probability and often results in better pricing.

At Beyonte Compliances, we provide end-to-end business loan advisory — from loan product identification and eligibility assessment through to application preparation, bank liaison, and post-sanction compliance — to help businesses access the credit they need on the best available terms.

Frequently Asked Questions

Credit Monitoring Arrangement (CMA) data is a structured financial analysis format used by Indian banks to evaluate loan applications. It includes the borrower's historical financial statements (three years), operating statement, fund flow analysis, balance sheet analysis, and projected financials for the loan tenure. Well-prepared CMA data is critical to a successful credit appraisal.
MUDRA (Micro Units Development and Refinance Agency) loans are available to non-farm micro and small enterprises under three categories: Shishu (up to ₹50,000), Kishore (₹50,001 to ₹5 lakh), and Tarun (₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh). They are available through banks, NBFCs, and MFIs and do not require collateral for the Shishu category.
Most banks and NBFCs require a minimum CIBIL score of 700+ for proprietors and directors for business loan approvals. Some government-backed schemes and NBFC lenders have lower thresholds. However, even with an adequate score, the financial statements, business cash flow, and security coverage are often more determinative of sanction than the score alone.
Most banks require at least two to three years of ITR filings for business loan appraisal. Startups without a financial track record can explore MUDRA loans (for small amounts), CGTMSE-backed products from some NBFCs, or government seed fund schemes. Venture debt from specialised lenders is available to VC-backed startups even without ITR history.
